Lowes has been doing a pretty good job in having a few organic supplies in stock. I appreciate that!

This year, it seems they’ve added even more products, including corn gluten meal, which can be used as a nitrogen boost for your lawn, as well as a natural pre-emergent weed killer. They have carried the iron phosphate (?) slug killer that doesn’t harm wildlife, and I use this every year. It’s good stuff and easy to use.

I still have to make a run to my closest organic store for things like Maxicrop and guano, but I think it’s fantastic Lowes is starting to carry organic products.

What I find interesting - and very annoying - is that when I ask for a specific organic product at one of the three nurseries I frequent, I get this “Well, chemicals aren’t all bad, you know. They can do great things.”

Um, okay, but I just said I’m an organic gardener.  Why is it always necessary to say something to me when all I do is ask if they have a certain product? I wonder if vegetarians ever go into a grocery store, ask where they might find the tofu and the clerk says “Well, you really ought to try a big fat steak instead of the tofu. You’ll find the blood tasty if you give it a try.”

Nobody at Lowes has ever said anything to me like that, but I don’t think there has been one time that I went to one of my nurseries and got that kind of reaction. It’s annoying as heck.
