Good bugs

June 7th, 2008

I have found so many ladybugs in the hairy vetch. That vetch is my favorite thing to grow. It’s pretty and soft, lovely purple flowers, and the good bugs adore it as much as I do. Plus it keeps down the weeds and adds nitrogen to the soil.

My uncle, a farmer, says it’s a noxious weed. He thinks my organic gardening is totally bananas, and I love the banter we have about it all. I only recently confessed to him that I dug up a wild chicory plant and put it in a pot three years ago. I might as well have said I started a dandelion farm.

I wonder what he’d do if I told him I have a power saw. (He forbid me from ever having a saw, which made me want one even more.)
